The primary doctoral programs of the Physics Dept. are in atmospheric physics and astrophysics. Students interested in atmospheric physics can work in one or more of a number of research areas. These include cloud physics and thunderstorm studies, lightning and atmospheric electricity, clouds and climate, middle atmospheric photochemistry, and atmospheric radioactivity. Many of the research areas involve the development of specialized instrumentation used in experimental studies of the phenomena.
