Microbiology and Immunology (MBI) is a unique research/academic unit within the Montana University System. Researchers in MBI use the exciting and powerful techniques of immunology, genomics, biochemistry, and developmental biology to address important issues of infectious diseases relevant to man, livestock, and wildlife. One of the special features of the MBI doctoral program is the high level of student-faculty interaction provided by the organization of the department. Faculty have offices adjacent to their research laboratories, are actively involved in hands-on research, and devote significant time to graduate students. MBI faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized scientists funded by NIH, NSF, USDA and private foundations. Interdisciplinary studies are strongly encouraged, and the association of MBI with other MSU graduate programs and departments provides students with a diverse range of research experiences.
