Latin American Studies

Department Website laii.unm.edu

The MA in Latin American Studies (LAS) is an interdisciplinary program, drawing on coursework in both the social sciences and humanities. MALAS graduates often seek out careers in government service, teaching, business, travel and tourism, or inter-American organizations. Other students use the MALAS to prepare for graduate training at the PhD level or in a professional school. Students may also pursue one of five dual degrees established between Latin American Studies and professional schools. The PhD in Latin American Studies is designed to meet the needs of a relatively small number of students who enter the program with well-defined goals for their course of study and whose careers would be advanced by an interdisciplinary rather than disciplinary doctorate.
