Philosophy with an Emphasis in Environmental Philosophy

Department Website hs.umt.edu/philosophy

The University of Montana Philosophy Department offers a 36 credit master’s degree in philosophy with an emphasis in environmental philosophy. Graduate certificates in Natural Resources Conflict Resolution or Wilderness Management are available to be taken alongside the master’s degree. An internship with an environmental or government organization of some kind is required as part of the degree. While courses and department faculty provide good preparation for students interested in going on to a philosophy PhD, the program is particularly accommodating of students who will terminate at the master’s level and are interested in careers in environmental law, policy, activism, and journalism. Deadline for applications and for consideration for teaching assistantships is February 10th of each year.
