Social Work

Department Website socialwork.utah.edu

Graduates of this three- to five-year program are prepared to serve as faculty in prominent schools of social work and to hold leadership positions in academic and government settings throughout the world. Students can choose from the on-campus or distance delivered program. The technology-enhanced doctorate, the only program of its kind in the West, requires an onsite, summer-intensive session. Well known for work with Native American communities, the College of Social Work is also recognized for research in the fields of aging, child welfare, family supports, juvenile justice and corrections, disabilities, health, mental health, substance abuse, and rural social work. The college enjoys strong partnerships with public-sector agencies and has a tradition of interdisciplinary collaboration. In partnership with a consortium of WICHE schools that have joined forces to meet shortages of rural social workers in their states and enhance practitioner's credentials, collaborating universities will offer online electives with a rural focus.
