Materials Engineering and Science

Department Website www.sdsmt.edu/Academics/Departments/Materials-and-Metallurgical-Engineering/Graduate-Education

This program expands students' knowledge and understanding of the science and technology of the production, properties, and applications of materials. Candidates select either a science or engineering emphasis within the Materials Engineering and Science (MES) Program and often work on research projects involving faculty from both disciplines. For example, research emphasis may be directed toward improving processes for the production of metallic, polymeric, ceramic, or other structural or electronic materials. Alternatively, a degree candidate may investigate mechanisms for improving material properties, which, in turn, could lead to new or better applications.
