Pacific Islands Studies

Department Website www.hawaii.edu/cpis/

The MA in Pacific Islands Studies is intended for students of the vast and complex Pacific Islands region wishing to transcend established disciplinary boundaries and explore innovative approaches to learning, research, and representation. Students are expected to acquire a broad and critical understanding of economic, social, political and cultural transformations in Oceania, before developing a focused research topic and producing an original thesis or MA portfolio. MA students benefit from the expertise and research of the more than 50 Pacific Islands specialists on the Manoa campus, and access the world-class Pacific Collection in Hamilton Library. Graduates of the program are prominent in the fields of education (all levels), government service, library science, public health, and social work across the nation and overseas.
