The Dept. of Theatre and Dance is comprised of two separate but related disciplines. Theatre includes the study of Asian and Western dramatic literature and theory; acting and directing; stage, costume, and lighting design; stagecraft; playwriting; and youth theatre. Professional stage, film, and television work, and teaching, research, criticism, and arts administration and production,are typical professions of theatre majors. Dance encompasses the study of human movement as it relates to the physical sciences, music, theatre performance and production, history, cultural context, education, visual design, and human expression. Dance majors find careers in the areas of performance, choreography, teaching, arts administration and production, therapy, history and criticism, and research.
