The MA program in Sociology at CU Denver provides a coherent, progressive educational experience that prepares students for either immediate entry to a master’s-level career or continued study in a PhD program. The program places a strong emphasis on research methodology, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis, requiring three core courses and providing opportunities for additional methods electives both within sociology and through cooperating departments such as Geography, Anthropology, and Health and Behavioral Sciences.

The department offers faculty expertise and substantive concentrations in the following high-demand career areas, as indicated by a regional labor market analysis: Health & Society; Crime, Law & Deviance; and, Family, Social Services & Community. The program is ideally located in an urban state capital, providing numerous opportunities for students pursuing these specialties to complete applied internships in state government, the judicial and penal systems, and state and city agencies addressing family, social and/or urban issues (e.g., aging, homelessness). Our connection with the top-rated Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado also facilitates internship and applied research experiences for master’s students.
