Sociology-Applied Emphasis

Department Website

The Master of Art in Sociology-Applied Emphasis is a two-year graduate program designed to train sociologists working on community-based problem-solving. The program emphasizes the application of sociological theory and research methods to various social problems experienced by groups, communities, organizations, schools, and governmental bodies. The Applied Emphasis program incorporates a research internship experience that culminates in a professional research report. Students in the program work side by side with local organizations which align with their interests. In so doing students gain hands on experience in applying their sociological training to client-based problems; and see firsthand how sociological solutions help individuals, organizations, and communities overcome a wide range of challenges.
