Sustainable Communities students believe in changing the world, one community project at a time. This 36-hour interdisciplinary program enables students to create their own course of study to address the world’s intellectual, ethical and practical concerns. By combining core classes with electives and out-of-the-classroom work, students connect the highest theoretical thinking to applied real-world projects that address pressing community problems related to environment, social justice, economic development, and other aspects of sustainability. Rather than learn a traditional discipline, they use systems thinking to understand connections between human social structures and the natural world, and seek solutions through rigorous analysis and community-based, collaborative doing.
