Department Website

UAF’s M.A. degree program in Rural Development is designed to educate a new generation of leaders for rural Alaska, the circumpolar north, and beyond. It emphasizes indigenous leadership development, organization management, community development, program and project planning, and an awareness of international indigenous issues in a dynamic, cross-cultural environment. The major objectives of the M.A. program in Rural Development are 1) to educate leaders with a broad understanding of interrelationships between Indigenous and other rural communities and the dynamic global economy; and 2) to offer a high quality program of advanced study for place-committed students in rural Alaska and the circumpolar north, combining personal networking with cutting-edge technology.
